Sliding Glass Door Repair in Bonita

Bonita is the unincorporated valley along the Sweetwater River between National City and Chula Vista, with larger lots, horse properties and tract homes from the 1960s through the 1980s. Owners here tend to stay for decades, which means the original aluminum sliders are now 40 to 60 years old and the rollers under them are long past due.

Homes and sliding doors in Bonita

Bonita's tracts, including Bonita Verde Estates, Bonita Downs, Bonita Glen, Bonita Highlands and Bonita Long Canyon, went up from the 1960s through the 1980s, and the typical house is a single-story or split-level ranch with one or two wide aluminum patio doors onto a big backyard. Doors from the 1960s and 1970s have steel rollers on a bare aluminum track that is usually grooved; the 1980s doors are often tandem-roller aluminum that just needs new wheels and an adjustment. There are fewer condos than in Chula Vista, so most jobs here are owner-occupied homes, and many also have an older sliding screen door that no longer tracks.

What your Bonita appointment looks like

  1. Send a photo of the door

Text or send the form with your Bonita address and a photo of the door and its bottom corner. Salt-air damage shows in that corner.

  2. Stainless or standard, decided up front

From the photo and the distance to the water we tell you whether stainless rollers and a track cap are worth it, and quote both ways.

  3. One visit, parts on the truck

Panel out, track cleaned, rollers in, door re-hung and the keeper set. Most doors take 45 to 60 minutes.

  4. Slide it, lock it, then pay

You run the door yourself before we pack up. Payment is on completion.

Bonita questions

My Bonita house is from 1972 and the patio door takes two hands to open. Rollers or track?

Usually both. After 50 years the steel rollers on a 1970s aluminum door have flattened or seized, and the wheels have worn a groove into the aluminum track. New steel ball-bearing tandem rollers fix the drag, and a snap-on stainless track cap covers the groove so the new wheels run flat. Doing one without the other means the problem comes back.

We have horses and a lot of dust in Bonita. Does that wear out sliding door rollers faster?

Yes. Grit from arenas, unpaved driveways and dry Sweetwater Valley summers packs into the track and the roller bearings, and the wheels start dragging instead of rolling. We clean and cap the track and fit sealed ball-bearing rollers that shrug off dust better than the open nylon wheels found on many doors. Vacuuming the track a few times a year helps the new parts last.

Can you fix the sliding screen door on a Bonita patio at the same time as the glass door?

Yes, and we usually do. Screen doors on these homes ride on spring-loaded rollers with tension screws at the corners, and after decades the wheels crack or the frame bows. We replace the rollers and reset the tension, or fit a new screen door built to the opening when the frame is too far gone, all on the same visit as the glass door.
