Sliding Glass Door Repair in La Mesa

La Mesa is East County's older, hillier town: the Village along La Mesa Boulevard, mid-century homes across Grossmont and Mount Helix, and the postwar tracts of Murray Manor and the north side near Lake Murray. Many homes still carry their first aluminum patio door, and the calls we get are the classic ones: dragging, jumping the track and not locking.

Homes and sliding doors in La Mesa

La Mesa's north side is almost all tract housing from the 1950s, including Murray Manor, which is some of the first tract housing in the county. Grossmont and Mount Helix are mid-century modern and ranch homes on sloped lots, many with wide aluminum sliders opening to a view deck. The Village and the streets around it have 1920s to 1940s houses that gained a patio slider in a later remodel. Original aluminum doors on aluminum track dominate, and the fix is steel tandem rollers and a stainless track cap. Apartments and condos along University Avenue and near Grossmont Center add balcony sliders that landlords fix at turnover.

What your La Mesa appointment looks like

  1. Tell us the door and the year

Your La Mesa address, how many doors, roughly when the house was built and what the door is doing. A photo speeds it up.

  2. A firm price for all of them

The first door carries the full rate and each extra door on the same visit is the lower rate. You see the total before we drive out.

  3. We come out with the right rollers

The 1970s aluminum doors common out here take a different roller than a 2005 vinyl door. We bring both, plus track caps.

  4. Test every door with us

Each door glides and locks before we leave. Payment on completion, workmanship guaranteed.

La Mesa questions

The aluminum slider on our Mount Helix home is original and heavy. Can it be repaired or do we need a new door?

It can almost always be repaired. The 1950s and 1960s aluminum doors on Mount Helix and in Grossmont are heavy because of the glass, not because anything is wrong with the frame. New steel tandem rollers sized for that door carry the weight, and a stainless track cap covers the worn aluminum track. The door slides again and the original frame and glass stay.

Our La Mesa patio door jumps off the track when we close it. Why?

On the postwar tracts here the usual cause is a roller that has worn flat or lost its wheel on one side, so the panel sits low and the bottom rail rides up over the track lip. Sometimes a bent track lip or a missing head stop adds to it. We replace both rollers, straighten or cap the track and reset the panel height so it stays put.

Do you work on the balcony sliders in condos near Grossmont Center?

Yes. The condo and apartment sliders along University Avenue, Fletcher Parkway and around Grossmont Center are standard two-panel doors, and we service them for owners, for tenants with the owner's go-ahead and for property managers. Rollers, track caps, lock and handle sets and screens are all done on one visit, and we can schedule several units in one building together.
