La Jolla mixes 1950s and 1960s ranch homes in the Muirlands and Bird Rock, 1960s to 1980s condos along La Jolla Boulevard and Coast Boulevard, and custom rebuilds on the Shores and the Soledad slopes with Fleetwood, multi-slide and other heavy aluminum doors. Steel rollers and bare aluminum track pit quickly within a few blocks of the water, so stainless rollers and a stainless track cap are the default here. Condo balcony doors in the Village get the same treatment, and HOAs usually only ask that the exterior look unchanged, which a track cap does.
Getting to you in La Jolla
We reach La Jolla from I-5 at La Jolla Parkway or La Jolla Village Drive, then Torrey Pines Road into the Village or La Jolla Shores Drive down to the Shores. Bird Rock and Windansea are an easy run up La Jolla Boulevard from Pacific Beach. Parking is the slow part around Prospect Street and Girard Avenue, so we allow extra time for Village condos. From central San Diego it is about 20 to 25 minutes outside rush hour, and we group La Jolla jobs with Pacific Beach and Carmel Valley to keep the schedule tight.

La Jolla questions
Do I need stainless steel rollers in La Jolla?
If your door is within a mile or so of the water, yes. Standard steel ball-bearing rollers rust and seize in salt air, and the aluminum track under them pits. Stainless rollers and a stainless track cap cost more up front but hold up for years on ocean-facing doors in the Shores, Bird Rock and along Coast Boulevard. Inland of Mount Soledad, standard steel rollers are usually fine.
Can you repair the big Fleetwood or multi-slide doors in La Jolla custom homes?
Yes for standard Fleetwood two and three panel doors, which take heavy stainless rollers we can swap on site. Multi-slide and pocket doors with four or more panels are heavier and use specialized rollers, so we ask for a photo of the door and the track first and quote after a visit. Either way we start by cleaning the track and checking the roller adjustment before anything is replaced.
My La Jolla condo balcony door grinds and leaves metal dust. What is that?
Metal shavings on the track mean the roller wheels have worn through or seized and the panel is scraping along the aluminum track. Keep sliding it and the track gets gouged too. The fix is new rollers and, if the track is already damaged, a stainless track cap snapped over the worn section. Balcony doors on Coast Boulevard and in the Village get this from salt air more than from use.
